 2018 Preview

B.T. Washington completed the 2017 season with a 4-6 record. Last year B.T. Washington finished sixth in Class 5A region two with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Golden Eagles have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2018.

Since 2010, B.T. Washington has gone a combined 24-55. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, B.T. Washington has not won much with a record of 65-170. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 4A and 346th in the AHSAA. The Golden Eagles have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time.

The Golden Eagles are led by head coach Maurice Heard who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-48 over the past seven seasons at B.T. Washington. Under his direction the Golden Eagles have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Heard.

Coach Heard's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 21-48 (30.4%).

The B.T. Washington Golden Eagles will play in Class 4A region two during the 2018 season. The Golden Eagles may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 5A to 4A. They will compete in region two this year.

It will be an uphill battle for the Golden Eagles if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season.

The Golden Eagles open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Carroll on Friday, August 24 at Eagles Stadium. Last year the Carroll Eagles finished with an overall record of 11-1 and in first place in Class 5A region two. The Eagles lost in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to St. Pauls by a score of 37-13.

B.T. Washington and Carroll have met a total of 20 times on the football field. The Golden Eagles have a 6-14-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2017 with Carroll winning by a score of 49-12.
